Irrigation / Sprinkler System Scheduling for Austin Texas by haterade999

It’s heating up, and the Forecast has 90 degree weather in it for the remainder of this week in the Austin area.

Remember when setting your schedule this summer that Rotating Style sprinklers like
the Hunter PGP rotor typically apply at a rate of .5″ per hour Source, and the Spray (mister) style sprinkler heads typically apply at a rate of 1.5″ per hour
Source. This means that your rotating style heads need to run roughly three times as long as the spray (mister) style heads to apply the same amount of water. The most common trouble service call we get in the summer is areas that appear too dry.

Many times the Rotor style heads are programmed to water the same as the Spray style heads, and this causes the Rotor areas to be underwatered by 1/3. You can watch your local Austin news to get current recommended application amounts, and then just set the sprinkler to water the time to get that amount irrigated.
